If you don’t know all the terms of your homeowner’s insurance coverage, you’re not alone. But there’s no safety in that particular number. And you don’t want to find out that you’re not covered when you need it most.

“Don’t wait for a damage claim to call your insurance agent. You need to have a better relationship than that,” says Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List, the nation’s leading provider of consumer reviews on local contractors and service companies.

A recent Angie’s List poll showed that nearly a third of respondents haven’t reviewed their policies with their insurance agent for more than two years. But you should have at least an annual conversation, Hicks said.

“Life moves fast, and this is one of those things that’s so easy to ignore,” Hicks said. “But you could easily be under- or over-insured and not realize it for years.”

Some homeowners think the housing crisis that has affected their home value has had a similar affect on their insurance coverage needs.

“Unfortunately, replacing your home could actually cost you more these days,” Hicks said. “This is no time to reduce your coverage. Materials and building costs aren’t going down and insurance premiums are based on replacement cost.”

Some homeowners in Joplin learned that the hard way last year when tornadoes came through. Insurance experts in Missouri said many homes there were underinsured because policies hadn’t been updated for years. In addition to the replacement costs for those homes, consumers had to deal with demolition, hauling and living expenses in the interim.

Another thing homeowners need to consider is whether they need special riders. Common riders include those that cover jewelry, art and special items. But riders are also available for injuries related to certain breeds of dogs – pit bulls or Rottweilers for example. Other areas of potential liability include swimming pools and other “attractive nuisances” that could bring unwanted issues to your door.

    Raise your deductible: Just remember if you do have a claim, you are going to have to pay more out of pocket then you would have before.

Advance Dx, Inc. announced the issuance of US Patent No. 8,062,608 from the US Patent office, which relates to the ADx 100 serum separating blood collection card for use by the clinical laboratory industry. This marks the first time such a patented collection device has been made available for all laboratories.

The Advance Dx 100 card is an alternative collection method similar to an SST tube, where red cells are separated from the serum without the need of a centrifuge. The processing of the dried blood is also made easier than conventional dried blood. No specific or specialized analyzers are required, other than the in-house analyzers most laboratories presently have.

The ADx100 blood collection card allows micro sample acquisition for laboratories interested in pursuing the two billion dollars and still growing screening business in both corporate health and wellness markets, as well as disease management programs. A full array of diagnostic testing including Lipid Panel (Cholesterol, Triglyceride, LDL and HDL) with a fasting Glucose, Direct LDL, Vitamin D, Testosterone, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein (hsCRP) and Cotinine are currently being performed on the ADx 100 card. New Code of Conduct for Collection Agencies Established

The new code comes as a response to a growing problem in the United States, namely, poorly behaving collection agencies.

“According to the Federal Trade Commission, the second highest type of all consumer complaints for the past two years has been complaints about third-party debt collection,” explains collections expert and founder of CollectionTree.com, Ryan Neuweg. “We want to help change this.”

CollectionTree.com works with a growing list of collection agencies, matching them with businesses that need assistance collecting bad debt. Now, in order to protect their customers, they are tightening the code of conduct for all agencies they work with and are creating an auditing process to certify they adhere to it.

“While the U.S. has seen many problems with debt collectors in recent years, the collection industry itself remains essential. Businesses must get paid by their customers to survive,” Neuweg stated.

CollectionTree.com’s new code of conduct is intended to guard its users from collection agencies that could do them harm. By connecting users with reputable agencies, CollectionTree.com saves them the risk of collection agencies acting poorly on their behalf and potentially harming their business or their clients.

CollectionTree.com will certify, among other things, that all agencies are licensed in the location that they are trying to collect, as 30 states as well as the District of Colombia, Buffalo, NY and New York, NY require collection licenses. CollectionTree.com will also assure that agencies are working to collect debt both thoroughly and appropriately, not violating any of the restrictions placed upon them by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, or Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act .
