Snowmobiling in Grand Lake, Colo.

Grand Lake, CO (PRWEB) November 09, 2011

With more than 120,000 acres crisscrossed with 300 miles of trails and jaw-dropping views in all directions, including those of Rocky Mountain National Park, it’s no wonder that Grand Lake is known as Colorado’s Snowmobiling Capital. The season shifts into high gear as the snow accumulates, typically about 185 inches over the course of the winter, beckoning riders of all abilities, from novices to pros, to hit the trails in and around Grand Lake.

The 2011-12 season promises to be especially memorable with the inaugural Colorado Snow Run, a benefit event for the non-profit Pink Ribbon Riders© (PRR). The Colorado Snow Run will take place in Grand Lake on March 9 and 10, 2012. Proceeds raised from the two-day event will assist Colorado men and women afflicted with breast cancer who are struggling financially due to their illness.

“We are thrilled to partner with Pink Ribbon Riders© and to be in a position to use our natural resources for an event that offers financial relief to those fighting breast cancer in our state,” said Lisa Jenkins, Executive Director of the Grand Lake Chamber. “The Grand Lake snowmobiling community is like a big close-knit family; the Colorado Snow Run is a way for us to extend our help and hospitality to our friends in need.”

In the meantime, Grand Lake is Colorado’s unmatched destination for maintained trail and powder rides. Of the nearby 300 miles of trails, 150 miles are groomed and another 700 miles of trails are available further afield in Grand County – the possibilities for exploration are nearly endless. So enthusiastic about the sport of snowmobiling, Grand Lake is one of the few towns in the country that leaves its streets snow packed for better in-town snowmobile maneuverability! “Riding through the streets of Grand Lake on a snowmobile is a fun highlight often cited by our visitors,” said Jenkins.

Helping visitors navigate the labyrinth of trails are Grand Lake’s nine snowmobiling outfitters and rental companies. Though trails are clearly marked and maintained, knowledgeable guides know where to find the best views, lay down fresh tracks and make sure everyone is having an exhilarating snowmobiling experience. Whether winter guests are going out on their own or on a guided excursion, they are encouraged to dress in warm layers, carry plenty of water, slather on the sunscreen and bring a camera to capture spectacular snow-capped views of the Colorado Rockies, Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake, Colorado’s largest natural lake.

When the Pink Ribbon Riders© come to town for the Colorado Snow Run in March, the spring snowmobiling season will be starting. At an elevation of 8,437 feet, the snow sticks around well into April, and the longer days mean there’s even more time to ride. The two-day Colorado Snow Run is part of a PRR national tour which currently includes six other states including New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Wyoming. The monies raised help patients in the states where the snowmobiling events take place. The Colorado Snow Run in Grand Lake will benefit Colorado’s breast cancer patients, both men and women.

The Pink Ribbon Riders© is a volunteer based organization that provides direct financial assistance to both men and women breast cancer patients so that they can pay medical bills, buy gas or food, even pay their mortgage while battling the disease. The 2012 Colorado Snow Run is expected to draw hundreds of supporters, snowmobilers and non-riders from around the country. An awards dinner and banquet is planned for Saturday evening. The event is slated to become an annual occurrence, with 2012 marking its inaugural year. Sponsors include Pink Ribbon Riders©, EPS Company, Colorado Snowmobile Association, Grand Adventures, Best Western Riviera, Gateway Inn and Thunderstruck Films. The 2012 Snow Run Tour is presented by, HMK USA, Arctic Cat, Choko, Triton Trailers and Ingles Performance.
